Kriss Titus is the Founder and CEO of Michael’s Foundation, located in Central Florida. With over thirty years as a C-Level Executive in the business world, she has discovered a new passion and purpose in her life.
When Kriss’s youngest son Michael came home from serving seven years in the Army as a Forward Observer and serving four tours in Afghanistan, he struggled psychologically with the effects of war and battlefield experiences. In February of 2016 her son Michael took his own life and now was among the 22 veterans a day that commit suicide.
Titus explains the only way she would ever be able to make sense out of the loss of her son would be by doing something productive in this space she never wanted to be in. She understood clearly the need to help veterans and their families to adapt to civilian life post military service. In 2019 she founded Michael’s Foundation with her friend and co-founder Cathy Huddleston.
Working together they created and provide to veterans and their families an empowering community experience with horses. Horses Empowering Heroes is a ground-based experiential educational horse program, where the participants experience building trust, staying present, learning to manage their hyper vigilance, experiencing peace and calm in the moment. Titus believes the ultimate goal is to support veterans and their families by providing a community where they can grow beyond just surviving too thriving. Kriss her husband Larry of 48 years live near the farm that boards Michael’s Foundation horses in St. Cloud Florida.
